A peninsula of native bush and hot-water beaches where you dig your own spa pool straight into the sand, a rugged coastline dotted with pohutukawa trees that bloom bright red every summer, and a slower pace than nearby Auckland ever manages.
The best time to visit Coromandel Peninsula is Dec–Feb, when typical daytime highs reach about 15°C (59°F).
