Pohnpei
Photo: NOAA · Public domain
A ruined city of basalt log architecture built on an artificial reef of canals, nicknamed the Venice of the Pacific and considerably less explained, waterfalls in a jungle interior barely touched by trails, and a sakau ceremony using a root the whole island still treats as sacred.
The best time to visit Pohnpei is Dec–Apr, when typical daytime highs reach about 29°C (84°F).
