Chengdu & the panda sanctuary
Giant pandas doing very little, very slowly, in a sanctuary built specifically so you can watch them do it, a Sichuan hotpot so numbingly spicy it is practically a sport, and a teahouse culture that treats an entire afternoon as a reasonable amount of time to spend over one pot.
The best time to visit Chengdu & the panda sanctuary is Mar–May, Sep–Nov, when typical daytime highs reach about 23°C (73°F).
